What is Sculptra®?
As the first volumizing agent of its kind, Sculptra® represents a unique new treatment in non-invasive cosmetic procedures. Sculptra® is a synthetic injectable material known as poly-L-lactic acid, which is derived from the alpha-hydroxy family of fruit acids. This same material has enjoyed wide usage for over 30 years in dissolvable stitches and soft tissue implants, and has a proven safety record. The product is highly bio-compatible and biodegradable and has been used in the cosmetic dermatology field since 1999, in 30 countries.
What is Sculptra® used for?
Unlike traditional injectable fillers that simply fill in lines, Sculptra® helps lift, smooth and firm- up your skin gradually because it stimulates the production of your own collagen. And although the results are not instant, visible differences appear naturally and progressively after each treatment session. Studies have shown that Sculptra’s potency can even correct lipoatrophy, a condition that causes facial fat loss. Using numbing medication to minimize discomfort, Sculptra® is injected using a fine needle. It works by stimulating collagen production in the skin and fills in what has been lost with age.
What results can I expect?
Results are gradual and, depending on the level of improvement desired and the severity of the problem, anywhere between three-to-five treatments, at 10 to 12 week intervals, may be needed. Each Sculptra® treatment session generally takes about 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of areas treated and the effects you want to achieve. Once the desired look is achieved, this semi-permanent treatment appears to last for 3 years.
At our clinic the treatment is done by the physician.
